Product Marketing Lead, Consumer Subscriptions

Marketing - San Francisco

About the Team

The Consumer Product Marketing team helps people understand how ChatGPT can fit into their lives. We connect customer insight with product strategy and development, working across disciplines to bring meaningful products to people around the world.

Our consumer subscriptions work focuses on showing people what they get with a paid ChatGPT plan and helping them decide when upgrading makes sense.

About the Role

As the Product Marketing Lead, Consumer Subscriptions, you will lead the product marketing strategy for ChatGPT's consumer subscription portfolio, including Go, Plus, and Pro. You will shape how customers discover and adopt paid plans while bringing a clear customer perspective to product and business decisions about how those plans are designed and tiered.

You will partner closely with Product, Pricing, and Growth to define each plan's audience, positioning, value proposition, and priority use cases, and bring evidence-backed recommendations to pricing and packaging discussions. You will be accountable for driving paid-plan adoption and will lead work across product launches, plan education, premium positioning, and the customer story on pricing and plan pages across ChatGPT.com and OpenAI.com.

This role calls for an individual contributor who can turn customer, market, competitive, and behavioral insights into clear subscription strategies and customer stories. You will guide senior stakeholders through tradeoffs, align partners without formal authority, adapt positioning for global markets, build scalable frameworks, and mentor peers.

Success in this role means helping more free users recognize the value of ChatGPT's paid plans and turning that understanding into measurable growth in free-to-paid conversion.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead consumer subscription product marketing across ChatGPT's paid plans, including Go, Plus, and Pro.

  • Partner with Product, Pricing, and Growth to define each plan's audience, positioning, value proposition, and priority use cases.

  • Identify monetization opportunities across the product launch portfolio, and own integrated campaigns that turn new feature releases into clear reasons to adopt a paid plan or upgrade.

  • Translate customer, competitive, market, and behavioral insights into evidence-backed recommendations for pricing, packaging, and product decisions.

  • Lead the product marketing strategy and customer story for pricing and plan pages across both ChatGPT.com and OpenAI.com.

  • Coordinate pricing and plan changes tied to product launches with Product, Pricing, Growth, User Operations, Web, Design, Research, Data, and other product marketers.

  • Develop launch and adoption strategies that make each plan's value clear and help customers understand relevant product changes.

  • Own the marketing journey from awareness through understanding, consideration, and trial, giving customers clear reasons to upgrade.

  • Partner with Growth and lifecycle teams to develop promotions and customer education that reinforce each plan's value.

  • Shape international go-to-market strategies and adapt plan positioning, messaging, and customer education for global markets.

  • Build scalable portfolio frameworks for messaging, launches, and customer-facing plan education.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have led product marketing for consumer subscriptions and have been accountable for quarterly growth and monetization targets, including paid adoption and free-to-paid conversion.

  • Bring sound judgment on monetization, pricing, and packaging, and know how to collaborate with Product, Pricing, and Growth on decisions that balance customer value and business needs.

  • Can turn customer research, market signals, competitive analysis, and behavioral data into actionable positioning and product recommendations.

  • Have built compelling premium positioning and value propositions that clearly communicate why distinct paid plans matter to customers.

  • Can lead complex launches and coordinated plan changes across multiple partners, workstreams, and customer-facing surfaces.

  • Have partnered effectively with Growth and lifecycle teams on adoption strategies, promotions, and customer education across the marketing journey.

  • Bring experience shaping go-to-market strategies for global markets and adapting messaging to relevant customer needs.

  • Can communicate clearly with senior stakeholders, explain tradeoffs using evidence, and build alignment without formal authority.

  • Are comfortable independently prioritizing ambiguous work, making sound tradeoffs, and developing scalable frameworks for messaging, launches, and plan education.

  • Bring rigorous editorial craft, an ability to translate technical and research complexity into accessible customer stories, and a commitment to mentoring peers.
