Health Privacy Notice

We at OpenAI (together with our affiliates, “OpenAI”, “we”, “our” or “us”) respect your privacy and are strongly committed to keeping secure any information we obtain from you or about you. 

This notice explains our information and privacy practices when you use ChatGPT Health and Connect Health offerings in ChatGPT (together, “Health Features”), and supplements the OpenAI Privacy Policy⁠. 

Health Features are only available to certain users at this time. For data practices outside of the Health Features please see the OpenAI Privacy Policy⁠. 

Some of the information you provide to ChatGPT via Health Features may constitute “Consumer Health Data” as that term is defined under Washington state’s My Health My Data Act and Nevada’s Consumer Health Data Privacy law, and this notice provides certain information required under those laws.   

If you choose to use Health Features to link your accounts with third-party medical providers to your ChatGPT account, you can import medical records, lab and test results, prescription information, and other related data from linked accounts.

Health Features may also enable you to connect your Apple Health data, which may contain, for example, measurements of vital signs, such as heart rate, bodily functions, and other data related to your physical or mental health status.

We also collect other information you choose to provide about your physical or mental health status in ChatGPT Health or in conversations with Health Connect enabled, such as information about your health history, symptoms, and health care services you have sought or seek to learn about.  

We use the information received via Health Features to provide our Services to you, including  to respond to questions you ask ChatGPT about that data, such as to help you learn about health topics and prepare for visits with medical providers. 

By default, we do not use the following data to improve our foundational models that power ChatGPT: medical records and health data received from third-party accounts connected through Health Features, conversations in ChatGPT Health, and conversations when Health Connect is enabled. A limited number of authorized OpenAI personnel and trusted service providers might access data received via Health Features to improve model safety, unless you have opted out⁠(opens in a new window) in ChatGPT. We also use the information provided via Health Features:

• To communicate with you, such as to provide you customer support;
• To prevent fraud, illegal activity, or misuses of our services, and to protect the security of our systems and services; and
• To comply with legal obligations and to protect the rights, privacy, safety, or property of our users, OpenAI, and third parties.

To assist us in meeting business operations needs and to perform certain services and functions, we may disclose information we collect to vendors and service providers (called “processors” under some privacy laws), such as providers of hosting services, customer service vendors, cloud services, and support and safety monitoring and improvement services. Pursuant to our instructions, these parties will access, process, or store Personal Data only in the course of performing their duties to us.

As described in our Privacy Policy⁠, we may also disclose Personal Data: in connection with a business transaction; if required to do so to comply with a legal obligation, or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation; to protect and defend our rights or property; if we determine, in our sole discretion, that there is a violation of our terms, policies, or the law; to detect or prevent fraud or other illegal activity; to protect the safety, security, and integrity of our products, employees, users, or the public; or to protect against legal liability.

We do not sell Personal Data of our users, including any Personal Data collected via Health Features. 

We’ve designed Health Features to keep you in control. Here’s more information about your choices: 

• Linked Accounts. You may be able to use Health Features to connect with a variety of third-party data sources and tools, such as electronic health records, medical providers, and other third-party apps. You control which accounts and data are integrated to your account and you can remove or add new accounts at any time. See more here⁠(opens in a new window).
• Memories. 
  • ChatGPT Health includes its own memory feature that allows us to remember certain details and preferences from your past conversations in ChatGPT Health and any connected apps or services, and provide you with more tailored responses. ChatGPT Health can store memories and incorporate any memories you have saved in your main ChatGPT account, all based on your account settings under “Personalization” and your instructions in ChatGPT Health. Your main ChatGPT account will not access memories you create just within ChatGPT Health. You can search, delete, and manage your ChatGPT Health memories under “View Health Memories”.   • Connect Health conversations are subject to your main ChatGPT account memory settings, which you can adjust⁠(opens in a new window) at any time.
• Deletion. You can delete any conversations or memories, including within your main ChatGPT account or within ChatGPT Health, at any time. See more here⁠(opens in a new window).

We may update this notice from time to time. When we do, we will publish an updated version and effective date on this page. If we make material changes, we may provide you with additional notice such as sending you an email or notification.
