Request Trusted Access for Biology Research

This Trusted Access tier empowers vetted organizations to use OpenAI’s mainline models for legitimate biological and life sciences work. (Note: If your organization needs access to OpenAI’s most bio-capable models for frontier life sciences research, explore access to GPT‑Rosalind here.)

We view these capabilities as effective tools for accelerating biomedical research, therapeutic and diagnostic development, public-health preparedness, and other beneficial scientific applications, while recognizing that they could be misused to facilitate harmful biological activity. Trusted Access mitigates this risk by requiring applicants to provide additional information about their organization and proposed use cases. These measures help us distinguish credible, well-governed life-sciences users from actors without a legitimate scientific need.

Application and verification requirements:

  • Accurate and complete submission of the application; inaccurate, misleading, or incomplete information may delay or prevent approval.
  • Verifiable identity, organizational affiliation, and authority to apply on behalf of the organization or proposed users.
  • A biology research purpose that is consistent with the applicant’s institutional mission.
  • Willingness to provide additional documentation, information, or clarifications requested by OpenAI before approval and throughout the access period.
