Scaling the OpenAI Academy: A new hub for AI literacy and community learning

Today, we’re announcing the next phase of the OpenAI Academy with a publicly available, free online resource hub⁠(opens in a new window) to support AI literacy and help people from all backgrounds access tools, best practices, and peer insights to use AI more effectively and responsibly. Through a mix of online and in-person events, the OpenAI Academy will offer workshops, discussions and other digital content ranging from AI basics to advanced integration for engineers and developers. 

The Academy began as a series of in-person programs focused on developers and technical users. With this next phase, we’re broadening access to serve a much wider community of learners—including educators, students, job-seekers, nonprofit leaders, and small business owners. We believe that when more people can confidently use AI, the benefits ripple outward—unlocking new opportunities for learning, economic mobility and growth, and innovation.

The new online hub features an expanding library of on-demand content, including educational materials created by partners like Common Sense Media. In the coming months, we’ll continue to grow the Academy’s offerings, adding new resources and in-person AI literacy workshops hosted in collaboration with higher education institutions like Georgia Tech and Miami Dade College; workforce organizations like CareerVillage, Goodwill and Talent Ready Utah; and mission-driven nonprofits such as Common Sense Media, OATS from AARP, and the Fund for the City of New York.

At Miami Dade College, we believe AI education should be exciting and hands-on, enabling learners to succeed in today’s evolving workforce,” said Pedro Santos Acosta, Executive Director of Emerging Technologies at Miami Dade College. “Our partnership with Open AI Academy Online and GPTechday is about turning curiosity into capability, giving people the confidence and skills to shape their own future and empower more AI learners across Miami and beyond.”

We’re also collaborating with Goodwill Keystone in Pennsylvania—an early adopter of AI in the nonprofit sector—to co-develop a hands-on AI literacy workshop. The program will train Goodwill employment specialists to use ChatGPT to support job-seekers with resume feedback, mock interviews, and career guidance. Together, we’ll refine the workshops based on participant feedback, with the goal of sharing these resources across the broader Goodwill network and other employment-focused organizations nationwide.

The demand for AI education is clear: People across industries, geographies, and communities are eager to understand how AI works and how to use it in their lives. In the months ahead, we’ll continue expanding the platform, introducing new features like only community groups, multilingual content, and global partnerships, including in APAC and Latin America, to help even more people build AI skills with confidence.

We’ll also continue partnering with governments to advance policies that improve AI literacy, expand access, and help students and workers build the skills needed to thrive in an AI-powered economy—strengthening local communities and ensuring more people benefit from these technologies.
